Welcome to Fifth Grade.  This is a critical year as students learn important skills that will increase their opportunities for success in Middle School and beyond.  Skills we are trying to reinforce are organization, responsibility, and good study habits.

Our curriculum this year is pretty varied and comprehensive.  In Social Studies, the focus is American history.  This is comprised of map skills and the periods of exploration, colonization, the Revolutionary War, and the Civil War.  Subjects in Science will include nutrition, body systems, light and sound, matter (atoms, compounds, etc.), Scientific Process, and famous scientists.  The Math curriculum consists of the four basic operations with whole numbers, decimals, fractions, measurement, and problem solving.  Language Arts emphasizes reading for comprehension and fluency, spelling, writing, and grammar.  Students also look forward to ending the year in a fun way by studying and launching rockets.
